This painting was a commission I did for one of my customers. He had a beautiful 1955 Chevy BelAir two tone in copper and black. He wanted me to do a backround in the painting but couldn't decide what to do. So he left it up to me to come up with something. As I was thinking about what kind of backround would look good,I started looking through reference material I had on fifties drive-ins. I happened to come across a photo of Mel's which I thought would look great in the backround. I decided it would look good if it was portrayed at dusk with the lights on in the drive in and the reflections in the chevy. He was very happy with the results.
